The beautiful Erechtheion temple on the Athens Acropolis
Perched on the northeast side of the Acropolis lies the ancient Greek temple known as the Erechtheion, distinguished by its iconic porch of Caryatid statues.
Constructed between 421-405 BC, this elegant Ionic temple was devoted to Athena and Poseidon and once housed the ancient olive wood statue of Athena. Though partially in ruins, the Erechtheion's perfectly proportioned façade and the six maiden figures elegantly supporting its south porch still remain intact, showcasing the aesthetic brilliance of classical Greek architecture and sculpture.
