The Odeon of Herodes Atticus at the Athens Acropolis
Situated on the southern slope of the Acropolis in Athens looms the grand Odeon of Herodes Atticus - an ancient stone theatre offering stunning panoramas.
Built in 161 AD by the affluent Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, it hosted music, theatre, and poetry events. Though partly in ruins, its towering arched walls still encircle the stage and circular orchestra where some of Greece’s iconic tragedies and comedies first premiered.
This ancient theatre remains an impressive landmark and venue for performances against the backdrop of the Acropolis.
